Class Descriptions for 2015 Camp Stitch A Lot (REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR 2015)


Introduction to Sewing 
This class will provide an introduction to the world of sewing. We will introduce the following basics:

  • sewing and machine terminology
  • notions
  • hand sewing
  • sewing with a machine

Simple, fun projects throughout the week will peak the student’s interest and enthusiasm for sewing. Students will work on projects that build skills in using and controlling the sewing machine. Stitches include a straight seam, back stitch and zigzag. Projects will include a pillowcase, a 4-patch pillowcase, and a tote bag.

Basic Sewing 1 (Prerequisite – Introduction to Sewing)
The student will learn to read patterns and to begin making garments. The emphasis in the class includes the following skills; pattern reading, pattern cutting, marking, elastic waistband, seam finishes and hemming. The projects to build these skills include pajama bottoms, a lunch bag and an apron.

Basic Sewing 2  (Prerequisite – Introduction to Sewing and Basic Sewing 1)
The students will make a shirt from woven fabric that includes sleeves, a collar, a pocket, buttons, and button- holes. This class will encourage students to work on their project independently with mentors available for advice. 2015 Registration Form

Basic Sewing 3 with Knit Fabrics  (Prerequisite – Introduction to Sewing , Basic Sewing 1 and Basic Sewing 2)

Sewers in this class will make a skirt with knit fabric from a pattern (New Look 6338) and a vest with knit fabric (McCalls 7042).

Basic Knitting 


The students will be introduced to the tools used when knitting, yarn selection, reading patterns, and the basic knit stitch. Projects will include spool knitting, fingerless gloves and a felted project. 2015 Registration Form   Medical and Media Release Form



Advanced Knitting: (Prerequisite – Basic Knitting or proficiency with the basic knit stitch)
The students will be introduced to the pearl stitch, decrease stitches and circular needles. Project for circular needles is a felted bowl or the second choice is a hat which features pearl stitches and decrease stitches (it is stitched flat and then seamed to create hat shape.)

Basic Crochet:
The fundamentals of the “portable” craft will be introduced. The students will learn basic crochet stitches, work- ing in rows and rounds, and finishing while completing the following projects:

  • a beaded bracelet
  • a neck scarf
  • a water bottle carrier
