2016 Camp Stitch-a-Lot Class Descriptions

Sewing 100  
June 27 - July 1, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
July 11 - July 15,  1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

This class will provide an introduction to the world of sewing.  We will introduce the following basics: 
  • Sewing and machine terminology
  • Tools for sewing
  • Hand Sewing
  • Machine Sewing
Simple, fun projects throughout the week will peak the student’s interest and enthusiasm for sewing.  Students will work on projects that build skills in using and controlling the sewing machine.  Stitches include a straight seam, back stitch and zigzag.  Projects will include a hand-stitched needle case, pillowcase, and tote bag.

Sewing 101- (Prerequisite – Introduction to Sewing)
June 27 - July 1, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
July 11 - July 15, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.The student will learn to read patterns and to begin making garments. The emphasis in the class includes the following skills; pattern reading, pattern cutting, marking, elastic waistband, seam finishes and hemming. The projects to build these skills include pajama bottoms, a lunch bag and an apron.


Sewing 102 - (Prerequisite – Introduction to Sewing and Basic Sewing 1)
July 11 - July 15, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.


Students will make a shirt, or shirt-dress from woven fabric that includes a collar, sleeves, buttons and button holes.

Basic Crochet – Portable hand project
June 27 - July 1, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Learn to make a chain stitch, a single crochet stitch and the importance of gauge.  The projects will be a bracelet with beads, a scarf, a potholder and a bottle cozy.   



Basic Knitting
July 11 - July 15,  1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

The students will be introduced to the tools used when knitting, yarn selection, reading patterns, and the basic knit stitch. Projects will include spool knitting, fingerless gloves and a felted project.
